2010 Economic growth in Armenia will comprise 1.2%, IMF Executive Director (France) Ambroise Fayolle stated. “RA economy will be restored through government-implemented money-and-credit and fiscal policy as well as international financial assistance, registering a minor growth of 1.2%,” he noted.

In this context, Fayolle noted that Armenia was among states, most impacted by financial crisis; still they “hope to be mistaken in forecasts”.

"I do not know who the president of Azerbaijan agreed with over the transfer of territories around Nagorno-Karabakh, but we have never discussed such a question with him," President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan told journalists October 12. The latest statements made by Turkish Prime Minister and other high ranking officials target Azerbaijani public, Armenian President said.

“Unfortunately, Armenians read Azeri sources, which distort the information,” Serzh Sargsyan told reporters Monday before flying to Moscow.

ARF Dashnaktsutyun insists that RA President should not go to Turkey for the return match between the Armenian and Turkish soccer teams. 

“Serzh Sargsyan should have rejected the Turkish President’s invitation after Turkey tried to impose its preconditions on Armenia,” said Kiro Manoyan, ARFD Hay Dat and Political Affairs Office director.

RA President Serzh Sargsyan said he has a good cause to visit Turkey for a soccer match between Armenian and Turkish teams. 

“I do not see reasons to reject Mr. Gul’s invitation. If nothing extraordinary happens I will make my trip to Turkey,” he told reporters in Zvartnots airport before flying to Moscow.

The authorities in Azerbaijan are facing allegations of abuse and repression towards both Muslim and Christian groups in the country. A major Sunni mosque has been closed down while Baptists have accused the police of intimidation and violence.

A Sunni imam, Ilham Ibrahimov, said he had “no warning” of the closure of the mosque in Gyanja, Azerbaijan's second city. It had functioned for the last 12 years. State officials arrived to close the mosque on 16 September.

Azerbaijan says a peace deal between Armenia and Turkey could threaten security in the region and "cast a shadow" over its relations with Ankara.

Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry said a peace deal should not have been signed while Armenian troops remain in Nagorno-Karabakh, scene of a decades-old dispute between Armenia and traditional Turkish ally Azerbaijan.

Turkey cut ties and shut its border with Armenia in 1993 in support of Turkic-speaking Azerbaijan, which was then fighting a losing battle against Armenian separatists in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Police clashed with anti-capitalist protesters in central Istanbul yesterday after using teargas and water cannon to stop them marching to the congress centre hosting the International Monetary Fund and World Bank annual meetings.

Protesters and passers-by took shelter in doorways as riot police and armoured vehicles cleared Taksim square, the city's transport hub. Some wrapped scarves around their face as protection against clouds of teargas.
